Folds in Flux
A series of creased paper sculptures that aims to shed paper's conventional role as a utility material by relooking at its position in relationship with sculpture, drawing and mark making.
By presenting voluminous forms and creased textures with no definite start and end, the idea of sculpture is presented as developing and in transition, as opposed to its traditional static nature. The addition of graphite and ink rubbings not only highlights the creases but inverses the relationship of paper from a subservient surface of an image transfer to the main source of a "mark". Informed by an introspective lens and simplicity of the mundane, these abstract creases and cocoon-like sculptures represent the self and its modest ways to embrace authenticity through changes, impermanence and imperfections.
